Four intrepid employees from Romax Technology in Nottingham will be taking part in a 10,000 mile car rally to raise money for the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation. The mammoth road trip will start on Saturday 18th July from Goodwood, UK. From there the teams involved including the Romax crew will head to the finishing line in the capital of Mongolia, Ulaan Baatar, over the duration of four weeks.
The rally is organised by The Adventurists and involves 300 teams travelling from Europe to Mongolia in cars with an engine no bigger than 1.2 litres to raise money for various charities. The rally has three starting points; Milan, Barcelona and Goodwood. The rally can start at any of the three points but all who make the arduous expedition will finish in the Mongolian capital. Depending on the route chosen by each team, the drive will be between 8,000 and 10,000 miles – by no means a straightforward undertaking! The Romax team will first travel to Prague to meet up with the other teams taking part in the rally and from there will be travelling through Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia.
The journey is in no way easy and the group can expect to encounter numerous flat tyres, long roads with enormous ditches, hours of tiring waits at each border crossing, not to mention enduring temperatures of up to 40°c during the day and below zero at night. Despite the difficult conditions the group expect to face over the four weeks, it will all be worthwhile when they hopefully reach the finish line in good time! But no matter what happens to the crew, all the money raised will be donated to their chosen charity.
The two teams from Romax are Ashley and Cindy Crowther and Matt Rozyn and Alison Naimo – and this is the first time they have competed in a rally of this kind. The Romax teams will be driving a pair of Ford Fiestas, the Zetec 1.2 model (nicknamed Buddy George and Esther the Fiesta), which will be splashed with Romax 20th Anniversary logos on the bonnet and passenger doors.
The chosen charity for the Romax teams is the Christina Noble Children's Foundation, which is dedicated to helping children in Mongolia who are in need of emergency and long-term medical care, nutritional rehabilitation, educational opportunities, job placement and protecting those at risk of economic and sexual exploitation. The Foundation seeks to maximise the potential of each child. Various fundraising activities at Romax Head Office have already taken place in the run up to the event.
Chief Executive of Romax Technology, Dr Poon, is very keen to support this project. "I like to see our staff setting themselves personal challenges that are difficult. The Romax philosophy is to always find a way to achieve challenging tasks. This is a great cause they are raising money for, and as part of our 20th year celebrations Romax will actively support and sponsor the two teams attempting the 10,000 mile journey from the UK to Mongolia."
