Romax and ARAI Deliver Second Seminar in Automotive Transmission Engineering Series

Members of Romax Technology’s transport engineering team recently delivered the second seminar in the Automotive Transmission Engineering series organised in conjunction with the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). The series of seminars is aimed at developing and actively promoting automotive gearbox technology to the Indian engineering market. This three day seminar focused on gear technology and was delivered by experts from Romax’s Transport Team including Chief Engineer Mr Barry James and Senior Transmission Development Specialist Mr Charles Bernstein.

The seminar saw 50 engineers from automotive vehicle manufacturers attending including Mahindra Automotive, Mahindra Tractors, Bajaj, Force Motors, GM, AVL, Eicher Tractors, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra Navistar, Daimler and Ashok Leyland. A wide range of technical areas were covered during the presentations including the basics of gear geometry, designing gears to maximise efficiency and minimise scuffing and understanding how different parameters affect gear durability. The presentations also discussed Romax’s simultaneous optimisation which looks at improving efficiency without conflicting with NVH and durability targets.

This series of seminars and the partnership with ARAI is another example of how Romax is actively forging strong links with the global automotive industry and academia as well as educating engineers at the grassroots level. This partnership is a great way to develop and support ARAI members in expanding their knowledge on automotive transmissions and also offers an opportunity for members to discuss pertinent topics in detail with technical experts.

“ARAI is delighted to be working in partnership with such recognised experts in this field. The series of seminars we are running with Romax will provide great learning opportunities and support our members in furthering their knowledge on a range of topics, which is vital if they are to succeed in this competitive market.” ARAI Director, Mr. S Marathe

Romax’s collaboration with ARAI will see a further five technical seminars organised in the coming months aimed at educating and informing Indian engineers in automotive OEMs, gearbox manufacturers and academia as well as ARAI members. The next seminar in the series will be held on the 18-20 August and will cover bearing theory and technology. This will then be followed by the fourth seminar on NVH Technology to be held in early 2011.

Mr. Abhijeet Kalbhairav, Business Development Manager, Romax India commented on the recent seminar, “The feedback from the delegates was very positive and attendees rated the seminar highly particularly remarking on the high quality of the presentations and the training material. These seminars demonstrate India’s desire for a greater understanding of the technical issues within the automotive sector and with our experience in automotive gearbox design and analysis coupled with ARAI’s industry knowledge we can assist Indian companies in fulfilling their potential in this industry.’
