Romax Technology signs new deal on wind turbine gearboxes with Shenyang Blower Works in China

UK based technical consultancy Romax Technology Ltd signed a new contract with Shenyang Blower Works Group Co. Ltd. (SBW), a leading Chinese industrial equipment supplier, to provide design and development support for DF2000 2MW wind turbine gearboxes. The signing ceremony took place at SBW headquarters in Shenyang on Tuesday 16th December, witnessed by representatives from local authorities and other partners including Mr. John Wang, General Manager of China, American Superconductor Corporation.

Dr Peter Poon, Managing Director and Chief Executive for Romax Technology signed the contract alongside Mr. Su Yongqiang, SBW Chairman and General Manager. Under the terms of the agreement, Romax will also provide drawings and technical documents, advanced training, software tools for design and analysis (RomaxDesigner for Wind), support on manufacturing, testing, and type certification for Germanischer Lloyd (GL). After the signing ceremony, Mr. Wang Ying, Deputy Major of Shenyang City held a meeting with representatives of all parties.

“As one of China’s largest providers of large-scale industrial equipment, our company is well suited for the wind power equipment manufacturing market,” said Su Yongqiang. “We chose to work with Romax Technology because of their experience both globally and in China, and their capability to demonstrate their fast growth and progress in the wind energy sector, especially their proven knowledge and skills within wind turbine gearbox design and development. We plan to become a major participant in China’s growing wind power market and we believe that Romax Technology can help us to achieve this.”

In November, SBW signed a contract with American Superconductor for development of 2MW wind turbines. This new contract with Romax Technology will enable them to become a leading supplier of wind turbine gearboxes and gives SBW the right to manufacture and sell the DF2000 2MW Wind turbine gearboxes in China. The company plans to have its first prototype turbine gearbox manufactured, tested and commissioned in 2009 and expect to begin series production in 2010. Romax has already started the design project, and will begin training SBW engineers at their headquarters in Shenyang in the New Year.

For Romax Technology the deal with SBW confirms their continued success in the Asian wind energy market where demand for their specialist technical engineering services and advanced software remains strong. The UK company is currently working with a number of organisations within the Chinese supply chain and their work with SBW is set to strengthen Romax’s existing links with the rapidly growing Chinese wind energy market.

We are very pleased to be working with Shenyang Blower Works, a well-respected manufacturing enterprise within China,” said Andy Poon, Director of Renewable Energy at Romax Technology. “SBW has strong ties to all of China’s five state-owned electric utility companies and this should position the firm to swiftly capitalise on the rapid growth of China’s wind industry. We look forward to working with them and assisting in the development of their first wind turbine gearbox.”
