Take our word for it - working at Romax Technology gives you the opportunity to grow. The testimonials below have been written by 2 of our current employees, giving a view on their experiences so far and why they joined Romax.
Annabel Smith, Engineer
After graduating with a Masters degree in mechanical engineering with German from the University of Bath, I wanted to pursue a career in engineering and applied for a Graduate Engineer position at Romax. At the interview I was introduced to other engineers who shared with me their experiences and opportunities within Romax. To me Romax seemed like a great place to work, with excellent learning opportunities.
What really appealed to me about working for Romax was that compared to most other engineering companies Romax is smaller in size which presents real opportunities to get involved across different technical areas from design and analysis to NVH. I was also really interested in the potential for travel and working in the overseas offices, especially the Romax office in Germany which would enable me to continue to develop my German language skills.
Since joining Romax in 2006, I started out as a Graduate Engineer and worked on many varied consultancy projects across a range of industry sectors, which were both interesting and challenging. These ranged from smaller analysis projects for bearing manufacturers to contributing to a larger two year design project for a global truck transmission company. Now, having specialised as an NVH engineer, I have been involved in several automotive and off-highway dynamic analysis projects using a variety of CAE software packages.
I’ve also had the opportunity to attend several training courses, which is something Romax actively encourages, and these have enabled me to learn more about the theory behind the analysis we do. Romax fully supports the IMechE MPDS scheme for chartered engineering and pays the annual membership fees for all engineers.
Romax is such an innovative company with a mixture of young engineers who can bring in fresh new ideas and more experienced engineers who have significant knowledge and experience that can benefit graduate engineers. The team of people I work with are really encouraging and supportive which means I have a great balance of responsibility and support.
Relocating to Romax’s headquarters in Nottingham was made so much easier because all members of staff were welcoming and friendly. There is a really great mix of people here from all backgrounds, cultures and countries, which make our company really diverse. There’s always something going on; Romax is a very social company, with a great atmosphere.
There are many exciting prospects for the future, and Romax has continued to grow year on year especially with their increased involvement in the wind energy industry. As a graduate engineer in Romax you really can develop, learn and grow your career as well as meeting many interesting people.
Xiaobing Hu, Business Development Manager, Wind
After graduating with a PhD in Materials Science from Cambridge University, I started to work with an investment research company in Cambridge. As part of my career development I was keen to work for a technical consultancy company and so I applied for a position at Romax.
Business development appealed to me in particular due to the huge opportunities to meet and network with various people and to really contribute to driving the business forward. I had background knowledge of the wind industry and was very keen to develop it further. The wind market was fairly new to Romax when I started and it had huge potential to grow. I really wanted the opportunity to be part of it.
Since joining Romax I have developed several engineering consultancy projects in Asia including a gearbox design project for 3MW wind turbines and a design validation and strategic consultancy for large wind turbine pitch and yaw bearing manufacturers. I have attended the industry's foremost events where I have developed relationships with interesting contacts and successfully won many contracts. My knowledge of the wind industry has been hugely developed and I now have a good understanding of the internal structure of the industry.
The thing I enjoy most about working for Romax is the young and dynamic culture. There are many people from different nationalities and backgrounds which makes Romax such a diverse company. We have a strong R&D team here, so we can always aim one step ahead in what we do. We are looking to expand into many new areas in the wind industry which is something I am really looking forward to being a part of.
We have a social committee here at Romax so there are always fun activities taking place and many people play sports too. There are great benefits and many opportunities to travel overseas.
