Description
We are looking to recruit experienced Senior Design Engineers to join our Wind Division. This is a great opportunity to join an expanding and innovative company. The position will enable you to develop existing skills and knowledge, whilst working in a multicultural environment, with many opportunities for international travel and customer contact. Working on multi-MW gearbox projects you will be expected to lead design teams to achieve demanding programme timing requirements whilst ensuring high quality design output.
Typical duties will include: -
- Providing technical input and leadership across a diverse range of wind turbine gearbox projects
- Managing the entire CAD process of complex/high risk components and systems
- Monitoring and controlling the timing for design work allocated to other engineers
- Creating detailed technical drawings to relevant standards, specifying suitable materials and methods of manufacture
- Monitoring and reviewing the drawings and designs of others
- Carrying out design FMEA’s
- Preparing and presenting proposals & design reports, both internally and to clients
- Working with clients to develop specifications and produce engineering solutions
- Presenting and explaining designs, reports and findings to clients
- Leading and participating in working groups to develop best practice procedures
The ideal candidate should have around 4 to 6 years experience and have achieved a 2:1 in mechanical or automotive engineering. Chartered status would be highly desirable. Skills and knowledge required include:
- In depth understanding of heavy industrial, heavy vehicle or automotive gearbox design including, gears, shafts, bearings and casings
- 3D modelling and 2D detail drawing CAD skills - preferably Catia and/or Solidworks
- Experience of rotating machinery - gears, bearings and shaft design
- Good understanding of geometric tolerancing and dimensioning
- Manufacturing background and design for manufacture experience
- An awareness of materials and heat treatment technologies
- Good people management, team working and communication skills
- A good understanding of the fundamental principles behind design decisions gained through experience in industry
- Ability to create new design schemes and layouts
- Good organisation skills
- Good influencing and leadership skills
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Coaching/mentoring skills
