Graduate Engineer (US Wind Technical Center)

An opportunity exists for an engineering graduate to join a team of engineers working in design and consulting for the wind industry. We seek an enthusiastic and talented individual with significant experience in design, drafting and project management for machinery. Reporting to: Senior Technical Specialist
Required to start: August to September 2010

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to an engineering team performing CAE analysis for trouble-shooting and design optimization of wind turbine drivetrain systems
  • Construct CAE models of wind turbine drivetrain components using Romax software and other software
  • Assisting with the collection and processing of experimental data
  • Producing technical reports
  • Delivering technical presentations
  • Assisting with instrumentation and field work.

Nature of Work

  • Conceptual design of drivetrains, including bearing selection, shaft sizing, etc.
  • Contributing to assembly and component design for wind turbine drivetrains and component test rigs
  • Bedplate and housing design
  • Design and specification of fits and bolted joints
  • Maintaining BOM and preparing manufacturing and assembly documentation
  • Coordinating and ensuring the timely delivery of project work by engineering team for CAE of rotating and supporting components

Experience

  • Related academic research/project work or industrial experience that demonstrates some knowledge of rotating machinery
  • 2+ years experience or masters/PhD degree
