We are looking to recruit experienced Senior Design Engineers to join our Wind Division. This is a great opportunity to join an expanding and innovative company. Working on multi-MW gearbox projects you will be expected to lead design teams to achieve demanding programme timing requirements whilst ensuring high quality design output.

Typical duties will include: -

• Providing technical input and leadership across a diverse range of wind turbine gearbox projects
• Managing the entire design process of complex/high risk components and systems
• Monitoring and controlling the timing for design work allocated to other engineers
• Creating detailed technical drawings to relevant standards, specifying suitable materials and methods of manufacture
• Monitoring and reviewing the drawings and designs of others
• Carrying out design FMEA’s
• Preparing and presenting proposals & design reports, both internally and to clients
• Working with clients to develop specifications and produce engineering solutions
• Presenting and explaining designs, reports and findings to clients
• Leading and participating in working groups to develop best practice procedures

The ideal candidate should have around 4 to 6 years experience and have achieved a 2:1 in mechanical or automotive engineering. Chartered status would be highly desirable. Skills and knowledge required include:

• In depth understanding of heavy industrial, heavy vehicle or automotive gearbox design including, gears, shafts, bearings and casings
• Ability to create new design schemes and layouts
• Good organisation skills
• Good influencing and leadership skills
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Coaching/mentoring skills

Due to our continued growth we are seeking a bright Graduate Application Engineer to support our mechanical engineering software. You will be a talented individual with strong problem solving skills coupled with the ability to communicate & explain complex technical problems to others.

As part of our Product Management Group, you will work with our experienced application engineers to use our gearbox design software (RomaxDesigner & RomaxWIND) to solve customer problems and provide support & training on the software. You will be visiting customer sites to provide training, and also accompany our sales representatives to visit prospective customers, mainly overseas. There is also scope to work with software development to specify & test new capabilities in the software.

You should have (or expect to have) a degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline. You must have a sound knowledge of mechanics and a willingness to learn. Some experience of FE or CAD/CAE software would be useful.

Due to our continued growth we are seeking a bright Graduate Software Developer to work in our Software Development team. You will be a talented individual with raw talent, strong problem solving skills and a desire for understanding & solving unique problems within a development environment.

As part of a multi-disciplinary software development team you will work with our other programmers & mechanical engineers to discuss and refine requirements, propose and code solutions and finally test the code with the engineers. Some of the challenges are: 3-D visualization of complex data, novel processing of large data sets, creating intuitive GUI’s. You will be trained by other software developers on our agile approach to software development. As part of your training you will have the opportunity to work on different areas of the software team, and travel to our overseas offices to support product releases.

You will be degree qualified in a computer science or related degree with strong all round coding and test skills. You should have exposure to at least one OO language such as Java, Python, Smalltalk or Ruby, and preferably some skills in C and C++ and web technologies such as HTML, CSS.

Your main responsibility will be managing extensions of the product and delivering it to our customers through our sales team. You will work closely with the sales team to understand the product extensions, creating a business case and refining the requirements. You will brief the software development team and negotiate a delivery schedule. Finally, when the product extensions are ready you will work with the application engineers to prepare case-studies and data-sheets ready for product release. You will also travel to rollout the product to customers and sales. As you gain experience, you will also negotiate between the sales and development teams to create a product roadmap.

Ideally you will be a CAE product manager looking for a move into a fast expanding company. Alternatively you could be an experienced CAE application engineer, looking for more responsibility. Whatever your background, you must have a demonstrated ability to work within a dynamic team, adapt to new challenges and show a willingness to learn. You will be degree educated in an engineering or science discipline, and have experience in the engineering sector.

Experience

• Involvement in machine build from design through to assembly, test and commission

• Contribute to an engineering team performing CAE analysis for trouble-shooting and design optimization of wind turbine drivetrain systems
• Construct CAE models of wind turbine drivetrain components using Romax software and other software
• Assisting with the collection and processing of experimental data
• Producing technical reports

• Assisting with instrumentation and field work.

Nature of Work

The Role

To help grow the Romax USA business unit for wind engineering to a position as the leading consultancy for all mechanical systems and driveline engineering in this industry.

• You will need to be confident to handle a sales role in a complex and fluid technical consulting business where new technologies and business offerings are continuously developed.
